# Code completion

> Qodo Gen's Code Completion helps speed up your coding by reducing the need for repetitive tasks such as copying and pasting code from the internet.

<Warning>
  **Heads up: IDE plugin deprecation notice**

  The Qodo IDE plugin is being retired on October 30, 2026. Local code review now runs inside the coding agents you already use.

  Set up the Qodo Agentic Toolbox to keep reviewing code before you open a pull request. [Get the Agentic Toolbox](https://docs.qodo.ai/agentic-toolbox).
</Warning>

<Warning>
  Qodo is deprecating its code generation features, including autocomplete and chat-based code generation. Qodo's focus is shifting fully toward code review and governance. For more information, see the [official announcement](https://www.qodo.ai/blog/an-update-on-code-generation-at-qodo/).
</Warning>

It learns from your codebase and suggests real-time code completions that fit your writing flow.

## How to enable code completion

<Steps>
  <Step>
    **Go to** [**Qodo Gen's Chat preferences**](/qodo-ide/chat/chat-preferences)**.**
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Find the checkbox next to **Code Completion**.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    **Click the checkbox** so that a tick ✅ appears in it. Code Completion is now on.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Using code completion

As you type, Qodo Gen analyzes your code in real-time to grasp your intention, and then presents code completions in a grayed-out format directly in your editor.

The suggestions aim to complete your line of thought or offer snippets that fit the context of your work.

**To accept a suggestion press the Tab key.** The completion will be inserted into your code.

## Customization

Customize Code Completion to match your coding style by adjusting Qodo Gen Extension settings. This helps ensure that suggestions align with your project needs and preferences.
